How much is an AAdvantage mile worth?
An American Airlines AAdvantage mile is worth about 1.5 cents on a typical redemption — between the two US reference valuations, which disagree here: The Points Guy says 1.45 cents, NerdWallet 1.7. So 25,000 miles come to $375 (about £276 or €322), and 60,000 miles to $900 (about £663 or €772). What moves it is the cabin: nearer 1.2 cents on cheap domestic economy, 1.8 cents or more in international business class or on a sweet-spot partner award. Miles only earn that value against a flight you'd otherwise pay cash for, and you still pay taxes and any carrier charges separately.

Around $375 (about £276 or €322) at a typical 1.5 cents per mile. Cheap domestic economy lands nearer $300, and premium cabins or partner sweet spots reach $450 or more. You only capture that value against a flight you would otherwise have paid cash for.
Around $1,500 (about £1,110 or €1,290) at 1.5 cents each — nearer $1,200 on domestic economy, and $1,800 or more put toward international business class or high-value partner awards. Premium cabins are where large mileage balances stretch furthest per mile.

Avios vs AAdvantage miles
Avios and AAdvantage miles land close in value — about 1p per Avios against roughly 1.5 cents per mile — so the deciding factor is usually the cash charges, because a British Airways Avios reward adds carrier charges on top of tax. Avios expire after 36 months of inactivity; AAdvantage miles after 24.
How many Avios for a flight?
It depends on distance and cabin, not a fixed price. British Airways Club prices rewards in distance bands, so since the December 2025 repricing a short-haul economy reward starts at 10,000 Avios one-way, and business on the same routes runs roughly 16,500 to 26,750. Cash taxes and carrier charges are always extra.
What are Avios worth?
One Avios is typically worth about 1p, the working figure both the UK and US reference valuations settle near, so 10,000 Avios come to roughly £100.
