How much is a Southwest point worth?

A Southwest Rapid Rewards point is worth about 1.25 cents — the lower of the published valuations, which run from 1.25 to 1.3 cents. So 25,000 points come to $313 (about £230 or €268), and 60,000 points to $750 (about £553 or €644). Southwest prices every award against the cash fare, so the value moves less than at any other airline: cheap fares land nearer 1.1 cents a point and higher fares on busy routes about 1.4 cents. There is no premium-cabin sweet spot to chase — the number of points tracks the price of the seat.

Where these numbers come from: The Points Guy 1.25¢ (1 September 2026); Upgraded Points 1.3¢ (1 September 2026); Frequent Miler 1.3¢ Reasonable Redemption Value, observed range 1.07¢ to 1.86¢ (10 April 2025). We publish a figure inside that spread rather than at the friendliest end — a balance that turns out to be worth less than we said is worse than one worth more.

Priced against the fare

A steady point,
flight after flight.

Southwest ties the points price to the cash fare, so a point is worth close to the same on almost every flight. That makes it the easiest airline currency to value — and the one where hunting for a sweet spot pays least.
