What is Avios?
Avios is a rewards currency you collect and spend on travel — shared across British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling and Qatar Airways, and linked to the Nectar program in the UK. You earn Avios from flights, credit-card and everyday spend, and shopping, and you spend them on flights, upgrades and more, paying taxes and carrier charges in cash on top. An Avios is worth roughly 1p to 2p depending on how you redeem it, and a balance lapses only after a long period of account inactivity.

Avios — the basics
From flights with British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, Qatar Airways and partner airlines; from credit-card and everyday spend on Avios-earning cards; from hotel stays and car hire; and from online shopping portals. In the UK you can also convert Nectar points to Avios.
Mainly reward flights and cabin upgrades, where Avios stretch furthest, but also hotel stays, car hire, experiences and part-payment of cash fares. Flights — especially premium cabins on off-peak dates — usually give the best value per Avios.
