The short version

Nectar is Sainsbury's UK retail points scheme, and it matters here because it converts to Avios in fixed blocks: 400 Nectar become 250 Avios, while 250 Avios become 300 Nectar. The rate is deliberately asymmetric, so moving points back and forth loses value on every round trip.
