Do Marriott points expire?

Yes. Marriott Bonvoy points expire after 24 consecutive months of account inactivity. Any qualifying activity — a stay, a card purchase that earns points, or a points transfer — resets the 24-month clock on the whole balance. There is no fixed expiry date, so an active account never loses points to time.

Guide

Do Southwest points expire?

No. Southwest Rapid Rewards points do not expire while your account stays open — Southwest removed points expiration in 2022. The one thing that loses them is closing the account: Southwest's terms say points in a closed account are terminated, so leave it open even if you stop flying.

Guide

Do Amex points expire?

No. American Express states Membership Rewards points have no expiration date, and there is no inactivity rule. They are forfeited in two situations: closing your last Membership Rewards-earning Card loses unredeemed points immediately, and points can also be forfeited for an unpaid billing period.

Guide

Do Chase points expire?

No. Chase Ultimate Rewards points do not expire while the card account they sit in stays open, and there is no inactivity clock. Closing the card forfeits them, so move them to another Ultimate Rewards card or redeem them before you close it; an account Chase closes for missed payments forfeits them too.

Guide

Amex to Avios

American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to Avios at 1:1, so 10,000 points become 10,000 Avios. Transfers are usually instant once your Avios account is linked, though Amex asks you to allow up to 72 hours. Periodic transfer bonuses of roughly 15 to 30 per cent are the easiest way to boost the rate.

Tool

What can my points do?

Add your Amex Membership Rewards to your Avios, since they transfer to British Airways at 1:1, and compare the total with off-peak reward prices. A New York–London economy return is 55,000 Avios and business 176,000. The tool sorts trips into within reach now, one transfer away and not yet in reach.

All are 1:1 except Hyatt, which is 4:3 from a Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred by 1 October 2026.

What are Southwest points worth?

A Southwest Rapid Rewards point is worth about 1.25 cents, so 50,000 points come to roughly $625. Because Southwest prices awards against the cash fare, the value barely moves — about 1.1 cents on cheap fares and 1.4 on higher ones. The calculator converts any Southwest balance into dollars, pounds and euros at all three rates.
