Do Hyatt points expire?
Yes. World of Hyatt points expire after 24 consecutive months of account inactivity. Any earning or redemption activity resets the clock on the whole balance, and holding a Hyatt credit card keeps the account active on its own. There is no fixed expiry date, only the inactivity window.

No. American Express states Membership Rewards points have no expiration date, and there is no inactivity rule. They are forfeited in two situations: closing your last Membership Rewards-earning Card loses unredeemed points immediately, and points can also be forfeited for an unpaid billing period.

American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to Avios at 1:1, so 10,000 points become 10,000 Avios. Transfers are usually instant once your Avios account is linked, though Amex asks you to allow up to 72 hours. Periodic transfer bonuses of roughly 15 to 30 per cent are the easiest way to boost the rate.

UK Membership Rewards has its own list, with Emirates at 2:1 and Marriott at 2:3.

A World of Hyatt point is typically worth about 1.5 cents — the most valuable hotel currency — so 50,000 points come to roughly $750. Published valuations run from 1.4 to 1.8 cents. Not on a date, but you can still lose them. Nectar points carry no expiry date, yet Nectar may close an account with no points earned or spent for 12 months in a row — and the points are lost with it. Scanning your Nectar card or app at Sainsbury's, Argos or eBay once a year keeps the balance safe.
